Siena Suits Golf Member to a Tee
July 21, 2002
When Jerry and Dee Cherson began looking for a place to retire, their
search took them all across the country. "We were living in Columbus, Ohio,
and as retirement drew closer and closer we started looking for a place to
get away from the cold," said Jerry Cherson. "We looked at Florida, Georgia,
Hilton Head, California, Arizona and finally Nevada."
After the extensive search, the Chersons found Nevada, and more
specifically Las Vegas, provided for most of their needs. "Although most
places we looked at offered the climate we desired, we were looking for a
place that provided a variety of entertainment and recreational options as
well as a variety of new homes to choose from," said Cherson.
Set on Las Vegas, the Chersons began their search for a home. "We wanted
a new home and after combing the valley, we narrowed our search to the
Summerlin area where we discovered Red Rock Country Club. We liked the
community, the company and the models but the homes were just too big for
what we were looking for. At that time Siena had an information trailer on
Town Center so we stopped in. The models hadn’t even been built yet but the
agent sold us on the vision of the new guard-gated, age-qualified golf
community."
The Chersons bought their home in July and when they moved in on November
23, 2000, they became a part of the first 100 homeowners to live in Siena.
An avid golfer, Jerry quickly became an organizing member of the Siena
Men’s Golf Club. "The club started about two years ago with 10 members but
since has grown to 55 members. At this rate we expect to have about 200
members within a year," said Cherson, who currently serves as the club’s
handicap chairman. "The club is a great way for the members to get to know
people within the community and enjoy the game. Our members have a wide
range of skill levels – handicaps from 10 to 40 – but everyone is just out
to have a good time."
Although Siena Golf Club is a daily-fee course, the Siena Men’s Golf Club
has no problem with making the Club their own. "Siena Golf Club’s General
Manager Clay Meininger brings a wealth of professional management to the
Club and even though it’s a daily-fee course, it is run similar to the best
private clubs," said Cherson. "The management has always reached out to our
club and has really made us proud to be a part. And now with the new Golf
Clubhouse, we have the perfect place to congregate and enjoy each others
company."
In addition to playing every Tuesday, Cherson and other club members also
play a couple of times during the week. "Sometimes we’ll get paired up with
people who are playing the course for the first time and when they find out
we live at Siena they are always intrigued and want to know more about the
community," said Cherson. "Many of the Golf Club members have become
ambassadors for Siena, but with such a wonderful community to brag about,
it’s an easy job."
When Jerry isn’t out on the course, he and Dee enjoy the many amenities
and events offered at Siena. "Dee enjoys playing golf with the Siena Women’s
Golf Club and we always look forward to the various outings arranged through
the Community Association."
"We have many of our friends from Ohio come a visit and they are always
amazed and impressed with our community. Dee and I bought into Siena in the
very early stages of the community. We bought our home based on a vision of
extraordinary things to come. We had a very high level of expectations and
not only have they been meet, they have been exceed in every aspect," said
Jerry.
Located on the southwest edge of the Las Vegas Valley, within the
award-winning master planned community of Summerlin, residents find an adult
community like no other. Here, set between the natural beauty of Red Rock
Canyon and the sparkling lights of the Las Vegas Strip, Sunrise Colony
Company has created a world designed for relaxation and rejuvenation named
Siena.
According to Paul Smith, Sunrise Colony Company senior vice president and
project manager for the Siena development, Sunrise Colony Company
specializes in the development of resort style communities, with more than
30 years of experience throughout the Southwest. "At Siena, we’ve taken our
company’s legendary resort community concept and applied it to an adult
community, where at least one resident of each home must be no younger than
50 years of age and children under the age of 19 are not permitted as
permanent residents. Within its guarded gates, private streets, and
patrolled neighborhoods, Siena’s residents have access to an unparalleled
variety of recreational and social activities to enjoy including golf,
swimming, dancing, bocce ball, tennis, craft clubs, social organizations and
much more."
The new 13,500-square-foot Siena Golf Clubhouse anchors the Lee Schmidt
and Brian Curley-designed, 18-hole, par-72 daily-fee championship Siena Golf
Club and is strategically positioned to offer magnificent views of the 18th
hole, Lake Siena and the Las Vegas skyline. The fully equipped golf pro shop
offers the latest in fashionable sportswear and accessories along with a
full range of state-of-the-art golf equipment. A full-service restaurant,
The Siena Bistro, features indoor and patio dining in a relaxed and casual
atmosphere. And for special occasions, The Bistro serves as a perfect venue
for social gatherings and receptions. While Siena Golf Club is open to all
ages, Siena residents are extended special rates and preferred tee times.
The community’s 15,900-square-foot Tuscan-themed Health & Fitness Center
features an indoor swim pavilion with a 25-meter pool, spa and series of
two-story windows overlooking the golf course, outdoor pool and spa, lighted
tennis and bocce ball courts. The fitness center is equipped with the latest
cardiovascular and weight-training equipment, exercise rooms, and private
saunas and steam rooms. There is also a comprehensive wellness center run by
the Summerlin Hospital & Medical Center, a full-service beauty salon and day
spa offering a variety of therapeutic massages, sports therapy, reflexology
and natural body treatments.
The interim social center is currently home to a computer lab,
billiards and card rooms and a sewing center. The facility features a
full-time, on-site activities manager and is also the setting for a variety
of classes and club gatherings, from ballroom dancing to watercolor
painting.
Siena’s new 39,000-square-foot Community Center will break ground soon. A
dramatic dome-shaped lobby and lounge will serve as the focal point of this
facility, but the Grand Ballroom will serve as its heart and soul. A
17,600-square-foot building section will be used for such activities as
theater productions, political debates, evening entertainment and much more.
In addition, this magnificent facility will feature a cyber café, a business
center, arts and crafts, cards and game rooms, and will be the hub of all
social activity at Siena. The Community Center is anticipated to open in
Spring 2003.
Homes at the 665-acre community of Siena range in price from the
$140,000s to the $650,000s. Six Italian-themed collections feature 18
single-story floor plans ranging in size from 1,040 square feet to more than
3,100 square feet for buyers to explore.
Each plan at Siena offers three exterior designs and a wide range
of customizing opportunities, including selected plans with courtyard
fireplaces and casitas with separate entrances. Professional interior
designers, headquartered in Siena’s new on-site Design Studio, are available
to assist homebuyers with their customizing options.
Siena’s newest offering, the Portofino Collection, debuted early this
year. Described by Sunrise Colony Company officials as ‘paired homes,’ the
Portofino Collection includes four attached floor plans ranging in size from
1,040 square feet to 1,378 square feet. Base prices begin at $144,500 and
range to $169,700.
